OUR MISSION

We will educate the local community about the value and importance of Mason Park Wetland and work collaboratively with Strathfield Council to restore the wetland’s ecology so it can once again be a vibrant habitat for local waterbirds and intercontinental migratory shorebirds.

Goal One

We will participate in and support all science-based efforts to restore and maintain the wetland habitat for shorebirds, initially through mangrove removal, followed by an ongoing program of regularly monitoring and removing mangrove seeds and seedlings.

Goal Two

We will support all efforts to improve tidal flush from Powells Creek through the entire wetland, initially by upgrading the entry/exit point at the northern end and installing a suitably-engineered, entry/exit point at the southern end. These gates must operate automatically.

Goal Three

We will engage and educate the local community by running free bird identification tours and by providing regular opportunities to participate in citizen science projects and practical efforts to improve the habitat, such as installing artificial bird-roosting sites or weeding out invasive plant species.
